High electricity consumption
I am a tenant at King’s Crossing and I have been experiencing problems with my electricity ever since I moved in. I’ve been spending about R1000 every month on electricity, and I hardly ever cook, I don’t even use high energy consuming appliances like heaters. On Saturday, the 20th of June I topped up with R200 electricity and on Wednesday I was already getting a notification that my balance is R4,22. I have a friend staying in the complex who confirmed that they spend R300 a month on electricity and that R200 lasts them 2 weeks or so and they have their gyser on 24/7 and cook almost everyday. It doesn’t make sense that I hardly ever cook but R200 lasts me only 3 days. When I call protea metering and ask for an explanation they keep giving me the same “its winter” excuse I’ve been hearing since I moved in. It’s as if winter is only affecting my unit seeing that others don’t even spend half what I spend a month. This is a clear indication that there is something wrong with their readings, and this is really frustrating because even when you complain there’s nothing they are doing about this. They do not care at all, and a lot of complexes are going to end up losing tenants because of Protea metering and the high electricity consumption. I am also at the verge of leaving King’s Crossing because I really can’t stand being ********** like this anymore.
You have a credit wallet account where you are not paying for electricity only, but water consumption is included.
The escalation of actual consumption during the cold winter months is not a myth.
It is clear how your consumption pattern reflects this reality of higher winter consumption, and unfortunately the unique lock down situation has also been a contributing factor.
Last winter the highest amount was R922 and in summer it dropped to around R600 per month. Now in lock down/winter it has escalated again to R924, R972 and R1 018 for the last 3 months.
Please keep in mind that only the residents of a household has control over the consumption of electricity and water and that the recording of the actual readings simply reflects what residents have consumed.
You are registered on the OAMI platform where you are empowered to daily check your consumption and manage it to your advantage. This daily monitoring also empowers a resident to immediately pick up on possible water leaks and have it resolved.
We will have the Portfolio Manager for the complex also communicate with you further, should you require any further assistance.
Kind regards
