disappointed metering
Sold my townhouse..transfer going through end of this month. Contacted protea metering to close utility account. Was sent a form to complete to cancel. Duplicated information which they already have.... Completed and sent the form Supp**** the estate agents cellphone number..but Troy might not know how to use a telephone or something so he asks for the email adress..Supp**** that also..then he flat out refuses to disconnect and close my account. The new owner must contact them and apply to take over the account first. The utility account was disconnected when I moved in. If you disconnect the supply of water and electricity to the unit there should not be any charges. There is no network charge on the invoice.
After all why pay out my deposit before you receive the deposit of the next owner.. makes you think doesn't it. This post will make sure that i wait the full 21 working days for my deposit....be warned people...stay away if you can.
Im glad to finally be rid of you protea metering...
Indeed, there is a monthly water demand levy of R28.32 - that is a fixed charge for which the owner of a vacant unit stays responsible for until such time that there is a new tenant or owner signing on for the account. These funds are payable to the Body Corp to ensure sufficient funds are collected to enable them to pay the bulk water account.
And the waiting period for the refund of the deposit is 3 weeks after termination of the account. You have therefore been informed correctly.
Kind regards

- This is according to COUNCIL bylaws and tariff structure over which we have no control - we simply have to ensure that the regulations are followed.
- These funds are payable to the Body Corp to ensure sufficient funds are collected to enable them to pay the bulk water account.
- To the owner it is 1X R28.32, but for multiple months and multiple owners R28.32 + R28.32 + R28.32 + R28.32 ... becomes an issue for the Body Corporate.
- Why do you expect them to pocket out the money for something that is your responsibility?
- We are not running away from our responsibility to the Body Corporate, and neither should you.
- And yes - the waiting period for the refund of the deposit is 3 weeks after termination of the account.
Likewise - Hope the above makes sense.
Kind regards

Best regards,
I vacated my townhouse in early March 2021. Bills have been up to date and my responsibilitie are ALWAYS fulfilled. Transfer of my property will be finalised by mid September. The new owner moves in on 01 September 2021.
I asked for cancellation on 18 August 2021.You refused to close my account on the basis that I MUST give you the new owners contact details (POPIA COMPLIANT????)
Written confirmation received from Troy in an email. Bluntly..refused to cancel and not any effort to gather the facts or escalate for consideration. She said she will not cancel my account until she gets the details of the new owner. She said this is a standard procedure!!
So you are saying to me that R28 is a a valid reason to delay my cancelation??
There is a security deposit of R6300 which you had to cover the handsome sum of R28 which you are obsessing about. But let me remind you once again..the new owner moves in on 01 sep 2021. So there would not be any further network charges.
This argument of network charges of R28 on your behalf is starting to look a bit silly now...dont you think???
So Have I spelled it out clearly for you????
You implement bureaucratic procedures to frustrate clients because we have no recourse. This is evident with your dismal trust index of 2 on this forum.
This is clearly a delay tactic to hold on to the security deposit as long as possible. Or at least until the next owner pays in to your account.
So please answer this for me if you reply.
1. Do you think that you have handled the cancelation request in an amicable manner based on the facts?
3. Why does the customer have to provide you with details of the next owner, when all he wants to do is to cancel the agreement with you? What authority do you have to transfer this responsibility on to the customer and make it a COMPULSORY requirement?
2. Did your employee Troy act in the best interest of the customer or protea metering?
3. Do you think that this situation could have been better handled if you took the time to enquire the full details of the cancelation?
4. Are there any lessons to be learnt here for your organisation?
Please don't forget to write to the body corporate and show them your efforts to save them the princely sum of R28 in network charges. Im sure they will give you a pat on the back for your efforts.

3. Read previous message, reasons are obvious
2. Both plus Body Corp - fairly and according to Council regulations
3. No - see no 2
4. Yes - we have learnt how the same thing needed to be repeated numerous times and you still do not comprehend and/or refuse to accept the facts of the regulations.
This will conclude our communication on this matter.
