DAY LIGHT ******* FROM THIS SERVICE PROVIDER - PROTEA METERING
I am a resident of Akasia place in Pretoria, a government subsides rental establishment targeted to low and medium income earning groups. When I app**** for the apartment at Akasia place my affordability was assessed and qualified as a low income earning candidate. Now, Protea metering as a service provider, with it's high and unreasonable billing system, has had me buying electricity every single day with money I don't even have. I don't understand how I can be buying R150 electricity every second day which sometimes lasts only for a day as a low income earning group? I cant use my geyser, i cook, I cant do laundry because of the unfair billing system Protea metering has established. It's such a shame because the SOCIAL HOUSING RENTAL AUTHORITY's mandate is all about affordability for our kind. But now, I find myself failing to put food on the table for my family because I buy electricity every single day with money I don't even have. The amount I spend on electricity is even higher than my rent. As it stands I have no electricity, since last night because I have exhausted my month budget already because of everyday purchases. It is my desire for member's of the SHRA to investigate this service provider because its clearly operating against their mandate for the low income earning group.
Unfortunately there is nothing that we can do about the promulgated tariffs. There is no special tariff established by the City of Tshwane for your complex - you are paying the same as all other Tshwane residents.
Your typical monthly invoice include the following items:
| Invoice 01/09/2024 | 31 Days
| Item | Units consumed | Amount | Daily Average
| Electricity 145.21 R459.40 4.7 kWh
| Water 20.27 R334.88 0.654 KL
| Sewer 20.27 R178.13
| Water Network Access R163.93
| Sewer Network Access R97.00
| Water read charge R12.50
| SMS messages sent 4 R5.00
SUB TOTAL R1 250.84
VAT R187.63
TOTAL R1 438.47 R46.40
Our mandate is to bill the charges for electricity, water, sewer and the water & sewer fixed Network Access Charges. On average you are using 4.7 kwh per day and 654 liters of water. The average daily amount is R46.40 and that is the amount that you have to budget for to use the electricity and water that you are consuming.
To conclude:
- The consumption is determined by you the consumer.
- The tariffs are determined by Tshwane City Council.
There is no mistake with the charges and there is nothing that we can change on the account. You may consider contesting the promulgated tariffs on a different platform.
Kind regards
