Embarrassing introduction to South Africa

We went for dinner at the restaurant at the Protea Hotel - OR Tambo as a friend was staying there. I'm not sure what the rooms were like but our experience at the restaurant was terrible. First we started with drinks that weren't cold, after not being able to order the original draught beer we wanted. We were told it wasn't available (after the server originally told us it was). It took about half an hour for drinks to be sorted out. Then it was on to ordering food. The prices are ridiculously high for what's on offer. I ordered a R130 plate of pasta (after being told there was no linguine or spaghetti available) and it pretty much tasted like a microwave meal - maybe worse. Overall the service was horrible, the food even worse. I was a rather embarrassed that this was my French friend's introduction to the country - and I'm sure many other international visitors, too.
