Suspected *****ulent activity from Proline Autobody Wynberg

I took in my car for repairs on 2 April and the first communication received indicated that the repairs will take about 10 - 15 business days to complete the repairs. Needless to say I got my car back at the beginning of May and so that turnaround time was not met. I had also asked for the front right lock of my car to be repaired as it had been broken when burglars tried to break into the car. I received a quote for R2400 or so and I accepted this quote. On the day of pick-up I got a call in the morning reminding me about the invoice amount of R2400 and I confirmed that I will pay this when I pick up the car. When I arrive at the premises I was met by the service consultant and we inspected the car on the original damaged area where the repairs were to be done and this was done to perfection and I have no complaints about that section. When I looked at the lock that was to be repaired I was dismayed because it was the exact same lock we had but it was just panel beaten back into shape, almost, and I expressed my concern regarding this but the lock was locking and unlocking with the key, which indicates that some repair work had taken place. We went inside to make the payment and the invoice I received had now increased to R4500 or so and I was shocked at this and queried it. I sat for close to an hour whilst the staff were trying to figure out what happened. I did not get a comprehensive answer as to what happened but I was told that some component of the invoice had been charged triple the amount it was supposed to be. This sounded *****ulent to me. It was resolved and I was given an invoice which I paid, it had almost the amount quoted with a R100 more than the original quote. I then queried why the lock seems to be the same lock but on the invoice it says there is a new lock that was purchased. We went to test the lock and I showed the service consultant that the hole in the lock that was damaged is bigger than the other locks which were not affected, which clearly indicates that it is the same lock my car had but it was just beaten into shape. Also the lock does not lock from inside which means the job has not been properly completed. The consultant indicated that she will get in touch with the relevant person to understand what happened but she could not get hold of that person as it was closing time. So she took pictures and said she will investigate and contact me with feedback. I tried to start the car and the car was dead. I called her again to understand what is going on and she was dismayed because she had driven the car from the workshop to the pick-up bay. We thought it was fuel and I asked why would my car not have fuel because it had two bars of fuel when it came and for a 1 liter car that is about a quarter tank. She said that the car was being driven around the workshop and for a test drive so that is why the fuel could have finished. Another staff member assisted me to go get fuel from the garage and helped me fill the car. I started the car and tried to get the fuel into the injectors etc. but the car just would not start. It turned out that the car battery was dead. Again the consultant was dismayed and the other staff member went to ask for a booster from the workshop. He jump started the car and it started. The car battery died at this workshop and we had to change it because it needed to be jump started in the morning again. I left with the understanding that the service consultant will call me regarding the discrepancy with the lock. The following morning my husband went to query the lock and was told that they are still investigating. It is now almost the end of May and we have not heard back from this panel beater. I am absolutely disappointed and would not recommend them to anyone.
