Profmed unprofessional , uncaring and suspicious
This was one of worst experience I've had from a "professional" company. My mother in law was diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer. The Dr in KZN advised that they cannot treat her there and that she needs to be moved to another hospital. We selected Unitas as we have a Dr that we know well their from previous dealings. We contacted Profmed and the advised them that we would like her to be moved to Unitas. They then advised that if we move her to Unitas we will pay a R12500 submission fee because Unitas is not on their list of hospitals. ( for some unknown reason probably the only one in PTA). We have arranged with the Dr in KZN to share the CT scans and other tests done with the Dr in Unitas whom after review advised that he is will to accept her as a patient. He arranged for a bed in Highcare to be block once it becomes available in order for her to be transferred on Thursday 25th July. By 5 pm just as I arrived home from KZN in PTA I received a call from Netcare Ambulance services advising that they will be transferring her to Groenkloof. I asked them why would you move a patient to Groenkloof if her Dr is in Unitas. We then told them that she must be moved to Unitas. In responce they said if we move her to Unitas we will have to pay R65 000 for the Ambulance. I ask why would you transfer a patient to Groenkloof but not to Unitsa which is 20km away upon which they said it was what Profmed agreed to. They then advised that they have send a few emails to Profmed and that they will speak to them on Friday at 9am. By 9h45 am I call them after not hearing anything. They then advised that Profmed declined the transfer because the patient has infection in her lungs and can not be transfer safely. ( which was untrue. She does not have an infection). Suddenly overnight the same patient who could go to Groenkloof cannot be transfered anymore because of an infection. We then received a call from Profmed who had a complete misdirected story about her condition. After my sister in law and I clarified the full story to the person over the phone she transfered us to a sister whom we again repeated the full story with. It was now 11h02 Friday morning. She said they will take it up with another lady and Dr to review the decision to decline. I asked her to please come back to me within the hour as it is getting late and we cannot afford to loose another day. ( as we may loose the bed that was kept for her). By 1pm we have arranged with Abaqulusi private hospital to transfer her at a cost of R25000. It is Saterday morning and we have yet to hear from Profmed. Given that it is a weekend we would probably be lucky to hear from them next week. When my sister in law spoke to the Dr in KZN on Friday around 12h30. He advised the Profmed called him and asked for a report as the family and the hospital is giving them different reports. We have a recording on him confirming "their is no infection in her lungs and that he is bussy writing the report as we speak" Amazingly it does not matter to those at Profmed the pain they put people through and the fact that the patient had lost 2 days wherein she could have started treated. Not to mention the next few days we will still wait for them to come back to us, given they have to contact numbers as and we are still waiting. So the story continues. When the patient eventually arrived at Unitas Friday night at 8pm they had to find a bed for her because the patient didn't arrive on Thursday as they were expecting. It happened to be her daughters birthday on Friday. What a gift of Profmed!! Make people who had just received the news that their mom has stage 4 cancer feel that they are cared for and in good hands!! Please save the excuses and think how you would feel if it was your mother!!
