\Profmed tarriff\" is ridiculous! "

I have been a member of the Profmed medical scheme for almost 2 years now and in that time I have only had 2 claims. Early last year I visited a GP for a bladder infection (PMB condition)- as a doctor myself I can honestly tell you that most GP's in Cape Town charges above R400 per consult visit. Profmed decided to pay out their \profmed tariff\" which was R340. I thought that it was just a one time thing but earlier this year when I went to a gynaecologist to do a papsmear- they again paid the \"profmed tariff\" which was R351. There is no specialist that will charge under R700. My account was R900 and they did not even cover half. I obtained pre-authorization and they told me I could visit any doctor and still I was left paying more than half of the visit out of my own pocket. I work for a service provider network that only charges medical aid rates and Profmed is not a part of our network because their tariffs are too little. At this point, it is better for me to join Discovery\"s smart plan and pay +- R100 extra and know that am covered by DSP's! "
