PROFMED - DON'T GET CAUGHT WITH YOUR PANTS DOWN
I was attacked by a dog (a bur-bull) in March this year. I rushed to the hospital to have the bleeding stopped and to get stitched up. After I was stitched up, the doctor pleaded with me that I stay in hospital overnight for observation but, as I hate hospitals, I insisted that I rather take my chances at home.
My medical aid considers these emergency hospital expenses to be a day-to-day expense (for which I am not covered) rather than an in-hospital expense (for which I am covered) purely because I did not stay over the night (which my doctor pleaded me to do).
So in summary: Because I didn't stay overnight in the hospital (thereby saving Profmed money) I now have to pay for these hospital expenses which Profmed would have paid had I agreed to follow my doctor's advice and stay overnight. I mean what do I pay these high monthly membership fees for?
I will strongly advise current members of Profmed to seek medical insurance elsewhere. Those with Profmed who wish to take the chance and continue on with Profmed, e cautious. If you end up in a car accident where your medical expenses amount to thousands of Rands, despite you being able to go home the same day, you will have to pay for those expenses. Insist such event, insist that you stay over in hospital the night (causing Profmed additional expenses) otherwise Profmed will refuse to pay your medical expenses. I for one will be cancelling my membership with Profmed today.
Good luck all.
