LACK OF SURGERY AFTERCARE APPROVAL
On 01.09.2022 Profmed approved my Arthroscopic ACL Reconstructive surgery which was then performed by Dr. Steyn on 12.08.2022. With any major joint surgery, as per instruction from the surgeon, post operative and rehabilitative treatment is deemed a necessity for the recovery of the patient. I have also received a referral and motivation from the surgeon for this post operative treatment. Without physiotherapy and rehabilitation, the operation can therefore obviously be deemed a waste of money. I have been struggling since 26.08.2022 with Profmed to approve the physiotherapy. I have been in contract with various different call centre individuals whom each has his / her own excuse or reason for rejection (and not one of these reasons being the same!). One of the reasons being: “This benefit covers members who have become disabled as a result of acute injuries caused by trauma, infection, surgery, spinal cord injury, brain injury, bleeding or infarction resulting in a stroke”. Really Profmed – would you rather me become disabled as a result of not receiving post operative care and then cover the physiothe****** or would you prefer that I have a stroke due to your inability to understand and cover post operative required rehabilitation?? This is pathetic service from a Medical Aid that is supposed to cover professional individuals.
