Discriminatory toward age

I recently quit my job to become a full time student, which is hard enough as it is with plenty of challenges. When my broker told me that profmed has a student rate I was overjoyed! However, I now learn that the service is age restricted. Why is that? Why are we living in a society where you have to be a certain age to do things? I am already struggling with conservative older people who have accused me of being too old to go and study, now I hear it from my medical aid as well? I feel truly offended.
