Sloppy workmanship and no business integrity

Gareth Russell from ProFix Professional Carpentry Services based in Fish Hoek, Cape Town quoted to install roof sheets on an existing wooden structure and secure a sagging wooden deck at our property in Simon’s Town.

We accepted the quote a paid a large deposit over to him.

On numerous occasions while the work was being carried we brought certain issues that we were not satisfied with to his attention and attempted to discuss these with him but he became really loud and angry, generally confrontational and extremely unpleasant with our staff.

Firstly he never adjusted the pitch of the pergola (existing wooden structure) onto which the plan was to install new roof sheets.

This alteration was described quite clearly on the quotation that he submitted and that we subsequently agreed to.

As a result of the pitch not being adjusted, now when it rains, the water runs into the masonry - no doubt causing damage - as well as into the interior of the building which has resulted in flooding.

He installed polycarbonate roof sheets directly onto the wooden structure but only after they had been secured did he paint a few additional bits of wood that they had fastened to the existing structure.

While painting they managed to get paint all over the newly installed polycarbonate roof sheets.

They then attempted to remove the paint with thinners which damaged (left milky streaks) on the new bronze coloured roof sheets.

Gareth eventually decided to pack up his tools and walk off the job without completing the work that he had been paid a large sum of money for. He then went on to block us on WhatsApp and mobile and has not responded to our emails.

If we do not here from him we will have no choice but to take the matter to the small claims court.
