A nightmare builder

<p>Procoat Projects said they were builders. It turns out they are not. They quoted us for a small alteration and we accepted to use them. The owner of this company brought his "foreman" and building team to the site to start. For the first 4 months, they sometimes came to the site, but often never pitched up to work. They did effectively nothing for 4 months.</p> <p>After these 4 months, I started asking questions about the foreman and team. I found out that Procoat Projects actually sub-contracted the "foreman", who was actually a separate company and builder. They never told us about this. I asked the sub-contractor if he was NHBRC approved. He said he wasn't but that Procoat Projects were approved. I asked Procoat Projects if they were NHBRC approved and they said the sub-contractor was approved. This actually happened!!!</p> <p>The sub-contractor caused damage to my house. Water damage, electrical damage, intercom damage and structural damage. The sub-contractor, without my knowledge or permission, completely siliconed up my electrical board so that we could not get into it.</p> <p>I then found out that the sub-contractor had another job and was delaying working at my house. I refused to work with that sub-contractor any longer. Procoat Projects demanded that the sub-contractor complete the job. I had to pay an interim payment at that point, which I hesitantly did. The sub-contractor then took that money and absconded. Procoat Projects was forced to finish the job themselves, using contractors, because in fact they are not builders, contrary to what was told to us prior to the project began.</p> <p>They made my family's life a nightmare, demanding more money for building specs which should have been included in the original quote. Instead of taking 2 months to do the job, which was the expected timeframe prior to the project, they actually took 8 months.</p> <p>Finally, when they finished the job, they sent me a final invoice for the outstanding settlement amount. They promised to send all certificates and guarantees on final settlement of that amount. I paid the final agreed amount on the invoice and requested the documentation.</p> <p>I waited and waited, then today they send me another email saying that I must pay them for the engineers report, and after that payment they would send certificates and guarantees.</p> <p>They’re trying to recoup their own losses from me by demanding more money and keeping the certificates and guarantees at randsom.</p>
