Nursing Staff not responding on calls for progress updates on patients.
On the 11 August 2026 at approximately 21:00pm I brought my 8 months pregnant girlfriend to the emergency maternity ward. She was vomiting and having contractions. They admitted her and kept her overnight for observation, around 2:00am on the 12 August 2026 she was taken to theater for an emergency C-section and our daughter was delivered 1.6kg and declared underdeveloped. She was referred to the high care nursery where she was placed on a normal hospital crib and she is breathing on her own. Around 4:30am on the same morning of delivery my girlfriend experienced severe fits and was rushed to high labor ward to be stabilized. I came through to visit during the 1:00pm - 14:00pm visiting hours and this is when I learned of these developments during the night. My first point of concern it took nearly an hour to establish which ward she was currently in as the nurses on shift could not confirm where she was moved to during the time of admission. When I got to her she was asleep and had not been seen too with breakfast. I was made aware that she was still heavily sedated when they where serving breakfast and she supposedly dropped hers on the floor. I subsequently brought it to the attention of the nurse on duty who gave her a soft meal immediately. My second concern is that I have been calling the hospital switchboard and each time I get out through to her ward I hold until my airtime is depleted without being informed about her current state as I was unable to make both visiting times today. I am a concerned citizens as we are heading for local elections our government department are failing us as the community members but have recently appealed on the news for us to vote for the ANC as they have learned from their mistakes. To the CEO 2 out of my 3 son's were delivered at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital and the youngest in 2015 almost claimed the life of my ex wife due to staff negligence. It is our constitutional rights to be able to contact the Hospital switchboard and be updated on the progress of our loved ones at any point in time for me however our new arrival.
