STAY AWAY From Prime Meridian Direct (PMD)
I would like to warn everyone that has insured any of their assets under Prime Meridian Direct, PMD, STAY AWAY!!!. I have insured the bakkie under the cover grow. I've been insured with them for over 2 years, I got involved in a minor accident were the bonnet, right fender and front light, front stiffener and the radiator was damaged. The car was still driveable, so I drove it home. I did all the paper work, i.e. Submitted Accident report signed by third party. To cut the story short, all required documents and pictures were submitted and the witness was interviewed. The car was deemed a right off simply because my cover had grown to R27 000. They said " We will give you R27 000 and take the car", I refused and I did 3 quotes from registered panel beaters, the highest quote was just below R16 000. Now they want more documents and they even want to tap into my phone history. I have claimed before and never had of such and to make it worse the accident happen during the week at around 07h30 AM.
In Short Cheap things are very expensive....STAY AWAY FROM PMD

PMD prides itself on ensuring that the assessment of your vehicle’s damage is accurate and allows for high-quality repairs thereto. Although your vehicle is considered to be uneconomical to repair we are pleased to note an agreement has already been reached to allow the vehicle to be repaired following approval of the claim.
A review of your claim’s progress revealed that your cell phone record data was found to be necessary in order to successfully validate the circumstances surrounding your accident. Rest assured that no personal information can be accessed, rather the data assists us to verify the date, time and place of an accident when we have no other means of confirming the same.
We can confirm that our Claims Team is working tirelessly in order to finalise your claim.
You no doubt remember that unlike many other insurers, with PMD comprehensive cover your claims excess reduces to zero - and it does so within a surprisingly short few months.

Eventually after writing to Hello Peter the vehicle status has been changed from being a write-off. The claim was approved after 3 months of ups and downs but by that time I had already fixed the vehicle from my own pocket. Now here is the funny part, PMD accepted a quote from their assessor of over R70 000, hence it was considered a write off. I managed to fix the vehicle for less than R19 000 and I submitted the invoice to PMD including pictures of parts replaced and the completed vehicle. They have since rejected that invoice, they said " The quote of R19K is too much and the fair price that they can pay R8 000. I have since requested them to send me a cost breakdown of how they arrived at R8 000. The matter as it stands is with the ombudsman and PMD has not responded.
My question will always be how do you accept a quote of R70 000 and reject an invoice of R19 000. How does this industry work? Perhaps the truth about the insurance industry is most cars are being written-off prematurely simply because the insurance stands to make a lot of money by writting it off and the client is left in-debted by a credit shortfall.
The reality is somebody without a vehicle insurance is far much better than somebody with Prime Meridian as his/her insurance.
