Radio is covered, then do a claim and now radio not covered?

Claimnumber CL***

The factory fitted radio in my car started smoking and with that made a terrible noise on the speakers. I tried to switch the radio off but no go. I had to pull off the road and remove the fuse to the radio to make the radio stop smoking. With this the GPS is not working and so the sound of the radio if I replace the fuse. The ESP then started to apear on the speedo cluster. I reported the incident to PMD and I was told to fill the claim forms that they will email to me to process a claim for I can Claim for the radio - it is included for it is factory fitted.

Then they call me days later. The claim is approved for R747.50, but because the amount is smaller than my access I can not get the money. I must then take the car to a SAMBRA approved panel beater to do a diagnostic on the vehicle.

I call on a panel beater and get charged R977.50 - out of my pocket

I then sent the report to PMD and wait. I called 4 times yesterday and after an email Lauren called me back.

I asked her if she did she get the diagnostic report I've emailed. Lauren confirmed that she did get it and I had to wait for the outcome.

Today I call her for an answer and guess what Lauren tells me!!??

Any electrical item or wiring in the car is not covered in my policy --***!!?

PMD let me go thru this whole claiming process assuring the radio is covered and then to tell me at the end that no wiring or electrical items in the car is covered. How did they tell me when I called the first time tell me that it is covered??

Is it now for this Mercedes radio cost in excess of R30 000-00 at the agent's??? and now my no claim years is messed up, all because of PMD.

Can somebody help me with the ombudsman contact details please?

Dear Jacques K,

Thank you for taking the time to advise us of your discontent.

At PMD, we take immense pride in ensuring that our clients are well-informed of the terms of the products they are purchasing. As explained in the policy document you confirm to have received, damage sustained as a result of mechanical or electrical faults are unfortunately excluded from cover.

Our Market Conduct Department will supply you with detailed correspondence on the matter.

You no doubt remember that unlike many other insurers, with PMD comprehensive cover your claims excess reduces to zero - and it does so within a surprisingly short period of time.

Assuring you of our continued best endeavours on your behalf.

Kind regards,

The PMD Team

Thank you for your reply.

Why is it that when I called the call center on 7 January 2020 I to check if the radio is covered,
I was told by the consultant ( Consultant committed to) that the Factory fitted radio is covered under my policy and that a claim form will be sent to me after I gave a statement of what happened over the phone for a claim form cannot be generated on the PMD system without the incident details been captured on the PMD system.

Check your recordings for that day.

And there you go. Pmd listened to the recording of their consultant speaking to me on 7 January 2020 and now they disappear quietly. No more communication from PMD. Check mate.
