PMD continues to debit after policy was cancelled

Early this year 2026, my wife and I notified pmd that we do not need their service anymore due to some reasons, we even spoke over the phone as they tried to redo our policy however they have not stopped debuting despite our clear communication to them. This morning I received this message from PMD "Prime Policy No. MX***: Dear Mrs Mbalane, you presently have no cover due to non-payment of your premium of R614.87 for 25 Aug 2026. We will continue to debit your account to get you back under cover. Bank details for cash payments: FNB, Branch code 255005, Acc No ***, Ref MX***. Please contact us urgently so we can assist you in this regard. If you have made prior arrangements, please ignore. Tel ***. " Is this how PMD works, is it legal for PMD to insist on debiting for a policy that has been cancelled?

Hello Gift,

Thank you for your post. We understand how confusing it can be to continue seeing debit order activity after you believe your policy has been cancelled.

At Prime, we are committed to ensuring that policy changes and cancellation requests are handled fairly, transparently, and with care.

Our records show that although you initially requested cancellation, you asked us to follow up with you while you considered your options. As we did not receive a final cancellation instruction, the policy remained active.

Our Market Conduct Team has been alerted and is already in contact with you to provide further clarity.

At Prime, we’re committed to making support accessible and convenient. Whether you prefer using the mobile app, sending an email, or making a call, we’re here to help, on your terms.

Committed to resolving your concern with care.

Kind regards,
The Prime SA Team
