PMD
On 1 April my wife was in a car accident. Long story short, it is now 6 weeks with no payout after car was written off. Just spoke to someone at PMD which advised that I disputed the fact that the car is a write off. Not true. On Monday a lady told me that the payment will happen this week. Now the manager says that the vechile was collected at the panelbeater and on the way to their yard. Then the payment plan will start which can take 2 more weeks. Is it normal that a write off can take 8-10 weeks to pay out ?

12 May 2026, 09:51Hello Julien U,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We understand how stressful it is to be without a car for an extended period, especially after being told different things by different people.
Our total-loss process requires us to first validate the claim, then confirm the car is a write-off, arrange upliftment to our yard, and only once this is complete can the final settlement and payment be processed.
After considering the matter, our records show that your claim was approved on 23 April 2026 and that the vehicle was subsequently confirmed as a write-off and moved from the repairer, but an internal handover error delayed the start of the payout process. This contributed to the longer-than-expected timeframe you have experienced, and our team is now prioritising finalising the settlement so that payment can be made without further delay.
Our Market Conduct team has been alerted and is already in contact with you to provide further clarity.
We understand how difficult it can be to be without your car. At Prime, we offer an optional Car Hire Benefit which helps keep clients mobile while their car is being repaired or settled.
Committed to resolving your concern with care.
Kind Regards,
The Prime SA Team
