Inhumane Treatment from Prime

On Tuesday the 26th of March, I unfortunately had an accident on the M7 due to the floods. Upon reaching out to Prime from the day of the accident to date, the staff has been anything but professional or helpful. Till this day no one can give me an update on the assessment done on the vehicle. I have been calling almost every day to at least understand what is happening.

Today I receive an outcome that that tells me that the roads were waterlogged, and I went into the water knowingly. Floods in KZN are rife and have taken lives, on the same area I was on 6 people lost their lives, the lady whose car was flooded is currently in hospital as well speak. I spoke to her mother 3 days ago. I sustained minor injuries as I tried to push my vehicle out of the water.

I am told by Prime that my issue is none issue as it is not because floods. I use the below story as I reference. The bluff – where I had the accident is 10km away from Lamontville.

KZN flooding: 6 dead after heavy rain south of Durban

It is inhumane to be treated like this and as I have life, I simply cannot accept this.

I note the below names as examples of the people in your office that gave me a run around.

Innocentia Baloyi – spoke to her today Lerato Lepatle – spoke to her last week

I am sincerely disappointed that an insurance that I took in good faith and in my desperate times of need, this is the treatment I am subjected to.
To be told that the roads were water-logged and that I went into the water knowingly. Who intentionally put their life at risk. Why would I seek to end my life. The lady who was driving a Grey Polo from Umlazi whom I rescued from the floods is currently recovering in hospital as we speak. Her mother – Thandekile [I can provide you with her details and number ] called me 3 days ago to express her gratitude. This means nothing to you, to us it matters , we care about people’s lives.
The old tow truck you sent to pick my vehicle struggled to reach Go-Bid Isiphingo as the M4 was also flooded when traveling south. According to Prime I am also making up that story.
Ask your driver of the conditions, what it floods or waterlogged.
According to your responses , I damaged my vehicle and risked my life – for what ? what is the reward for this. All that visited upon me was beyond my control, it's even more frustrating that i have to explain this.
After calling for almost 2 weeks, not single person can explain the type of assessment that was done on the vehicle,. Without doing anything on the vehicle you simply sent the vehicle to Kangaroo Panel Beaters. The same panel beater who called me today to pick-up my vehicle from the site as my claim was repudiated. I had to find out from someone i don't know that i had come and collect my vehicle. What is that ?
I am deeply concerned, abused and frankly this type of conduct is really uncalled for. My mistake was choosing an insurer, whom it sole purpose is the collection of premiums and neglect the victims of natural disasters. KwaZulu-Natal has been experiencing heavy rains and floods – people die. Refer to the below factual evidence:
In case you are not fami**** with the place, look at the evidence from the articles and check how far was I from the places where people died – within 10km, however, according to Prime – KZN people died because of “Waterlogged”.
It goes without saying, the respect of life is non-existence with Prime.
Rest assured I will fight until unfairness is exercised.
Regards
Sabelo

To make matters worse, i learnt of the outcome of the claim via a panel beater.

The panel beater informed me last week that the claim was repudiated and i needed to collect my vehicle immediately. When i reached out to Prime, no one seems to have any knowledge of what is happening.

Now i am being told that, i need to pay release fees to the panel beaters which i was never made aware of. Currently, there is a dispute between myself and prime pending as a result of the outcome.

To reiterate, my accident came as result of floods. i survived the floods barely and it was impossible to see the floods at night and many other vehicles were as affected as i was.

The ill treatment is not abating regardless of what i write or how many calls i have made.

The facts below remain :

I was in an accident - flood related.
People died - i survived. I assisted person - they survived.
Affidavits can produced by the people who at our aid.
My vehicle sustained damage both on the front and in the back.
Today, i learnt for the very first time that the engine also sustained the damage - this i am also told by the panel beaters.

What kind of treatment is this ?

I will write, fight and until someone of significant power and resources comes at my aid as Prime clearly is not interested in assisting it's clients.

Regards
Sabelo

A decision was made. I was not informed.

I disagree with the decision, it was at night and it was impossible to see. I had an accident.

What was the alternative for me ?

To whom it may concern.
I am writing to bring to your attention the ongoing issues with the claim regarding the accident involving my vehicle. As discussed telephonically and in previous emails, I have attached photos that detail the conditions on the day of the accident, including the state of my vehicle.
On the day of the accident, I encountered a flooded road due to heavy rains. I was unable to detect or see the water, and despite my efforts to push my car out of the water to minimize or prevent any damage, I was unsuccessful. Additionally, as you will see in the attached pictures, my bumper was damaged by the old tow truck that came to pull my vehicle. I am particularly concerned that my automatic vehicle was not placed on a flatbed, as it should have been.
This claim has been handled in a manner that I believe to be inhumane and dismissive of my concerns. Every attempt I have made to have my case heard has been marginalized. To summarize, the sequence of events is as follows:
- I accidentally drove through a flooded road due to heavy rains.
- A tow truck arrived, pulled my vehicle, and caused further damage to my bumper on top of the existing water damage.
- The claim was processed recklessly, and an outcome was reached by PMD that was not substantiated by evidence.
- The outcome of the claim was delivered to me by a rude and unprofessional third party (panel beater).
- Communication with me was flawed from the beginning.
I kindly request that you review my case and resolve the issues at hand. The handling of this claim has been far from satisfactory, and I believe it warrants immediate attention and rectification.

I look forward to your prompt response.

Floods
Flooding is becoming increasingly common in certain regions of South Africa [ KZN to be specific]. Water damage can ruin your car’s engine, electronics, and upholstery, sometimes leaving the car irreparable. Never try to drive through a flooded road; rather, seek an alternative route, turn around, or even switch off your car’s engine while you climb to a place of safety.

My case and point.
This was not an attempt to drive through, my vision was impaired and i could not see the water that flooded the road - it was after 10pm [ this was an accident ] - i did not intentionally drive through a flooded road.
