If I could give 0 stars I would.
PLEASE SHARE, IT MAY HELP FIX MY CAR (or at least spread awareness and spare someone else trauma)
As a young professional I feel targeted and taken advantage of!!!!!!
I (stupidly) took out cover with Prime Meridian Direct in June 2019. I was advised by the insurance sales person that my excess was R5000 but that it would REDUCE over time. The sales person also advised that the premiums would remain the same if I remained claim free.
(This is still their selling point “song and dance”)
I took out cover with them in June 2019 and 4 months later (October 2019) they sent an email in which they enclosed updated policy terms in which had bumped up my excess to R12015.
I unfortunately didn’t see this email and in my defence I also didn’t stress about checking my emails from PMD because I had been reassured by their sales representative that my premiums would stay the same and that my excess would REDUCE.
I got into a car accident this year (2023). My insurance claim was approved by PMD but they have refused to pay out on the basis that the damages to my car do not exceed the excess amount (R15000 excess at this point)
R12015 for being a driver under the age of 30 and R2985 for the time of the accident.
I have disputed the excess of R15000 vehemently. I have referred the matter to the Ombudsman but to no avail. It has been 4 months, I am still without a car.
IF YOU ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 30 and insured with PMD, HURRY, check your policy.
PMD, can you fix my car ey?
