Disappointing Claim Handling Experience with Prime Meridian Car Insurance

PMD Claim number CL*** - Disappointing Claim Handling Experience with Prime Meridian Direct Car Insurance I have been a client of PMD for many years all was well until I had to submit a claim on 10 May 2024. Their handling of my claim has been disappointing to date. I submitted all the documents required and I received written communication on 15 May 2024 that my claim was approved and repair work may commence. This is where all came to a sudden halt. There was a delay in the authorisation of the repairer’s quote. All I received was a phone call three or four days later from PMD advising me that my claim has been approved and that it will another two to three days for authorisation to be given to the repairer. I mentioned to the PMD representative who called me that it has already been four days since the claim was approved and then I was told that my matter will be escalated. On Friday 24 May 2024 I received a phone call from PMD advising me that my vehicle was uneconomical to repair and that my claim will still be honoured but that I had to submit proof of ownership to the claims department in order for them to calculate the value of my vehicle. I got the impression that they were looking to pay me as little as possible and I voice this to them. What concerns me it the lack of seriousness and sensitivity they displayed to me as their customer. I am now required to look for a vehicle registration document for my 2004/5 Toyota Corolla which is fully paid many years ago, which I filed in a box somewhere or find the time and arrange transport to visit the vehicle registration authorities to request a duplicate which will most likely take another three weeks or more to obtain so that they can continue with the next phase of my claim. I find their handling of my claim totally unacceptable.

Hello Melvern

Thank you for your post.

At Prime SA (previously known as PMD), we take immense pride in paying all valid claims and in ensuring that all are claims are validated in line with our ethos of transparency and fairness.

It does sometimes happen that a vehicle is declared uneconomical to repair when repair work commences - this is due to damages that can only be seen once the repairer starts stripping the vehicle. Kindly be advised that it is standard practice and necessary for clients to supply a copy of the NATIS before settlement in the case of a write-off, firstly to confirm ownership of the vehicle, and secondly to obtain the correct value of the vehicle and ensure that you are indemnified.

A review of your claim confirms that the validation of your claim was completed well within turnaround time and the settlement process is currently on hold pending receipt of a copy of the insured vehicle’s NATIS.

It will delight you to learn that Prime provides affordable insurance products to accommodate every day South Africans. Obtaining a quote can be done through our user-friendly website at www.prime.co.za.

Assuring you of our continued best endeavours.
