Pride Pools – Poor workmanship, lack of supervision, and unresolved defects We contracted Pride Pools ***ner: Paul Thorne) to construct a swimming pool at our property in Grabouw, Western Cape, at a cost of over R300,000. The scope included a 10 x 4m gunite pool with marble plaster finish, paving, filtration system, and associated works as per quotation. Throughout the project, we experienced significant issues with workmanship and oversight: The owner only visited the site once during the entire construction process. The work was largely left to labourers without supervision as initially represented. Pool paving tiles were installed unevenly and not level. This poor workmanship was only identified by us and had to be pointed out before the tiles were removed and re-laid. Several tiles were broken during installation due to workmanship issues, and we had to replace these at our own cost. After completion of the pool in February, further defects became evident: By May, brown staining appeared on the marble plaster (particularly on the steps). We requested multiple times that the owner inspect the issue. He eventually visited once but was unable to determine the cause. Workers were sent to sand the affected areas, which only temporarily improved the appearance. The staining returned within a short period. Despite multiple attempts to resolve these issues directly, no lasting solution or responsibility has been provided. Based on our experience, we would not recommend using this company to build a swimming pool. Location: Grabouw, Western Cape
