On Sunday, 5 July 2026, at approximately 14:20, I was stationary at the robot on Mandela Boulevard, outbound from Cape Town. When the robot turned green, the vehicle in front of me remained stationary, which meant that I also remained stationary. A few moments later, my vehicle was struck from behind by a Mahindra Pik-Up Single Cab, registration number KY 28 HJ GP, driven by Andrew Diab, of Prestige Gas. At the time of the collision, both of my toddler children were passengers in my vehicle. After the collision, I exited my vehicle to assess the damage. Mr Diab did not exit his vehicle to inspect the damage or enquire whether I or my children had sustained any injuries. I began photographing the damage to my vehicle and requested his personal details and a copy of his driver's license. Mr Diab only provided me with his business card before driving away from the scene. I then proceeded directly to my local police station to report the incident. I was advised by the officers that I required the other driver's details. In the presence of the officers, I phoned the number listed on Mr Diab's business card and requested that he provide me with his details. He instructed me to send him a WhatsApp message, stating that he would provide the requested information. After I sent him the WhatsApp message, Mr Diab initially indicated that he would send the relevant information. However, he subsequently responded: "Won't be happening about to fly JH and don't need to as no damage to my car and I don't have insurance." I then telephoned him again, during which he stated that he would block my number, that I should sue him, and that he would not be paying for any damages arising from the collision. Since the incident, I have made several attempts to contact both Mr Diab and his employer, Prestige Gas, via telephone and email, but I have received no response. As a result of this collision, my vehicle sustained damage while I and my two young children were occupants of the vehicle. I respectfully request that this statement be considered in support of my insurance claim and any legal proceedings necessary to recover the costs of repairing my vehicle, medical expenses should they arise, and any other losses incurred as a result of this incident.
