Potential ***** - Sales calls
I received a random sales call from who named themselves "Premium Debt solution" if I'm not mistaken. I recalled it wasn't the first time. What they do is telephonic sales, they say they are registered with NRC and ask for security questions then go to your credit profile.
According to our conversation, they offer a reduced interest rate on your active debts (accounts, home loan, car repayments etc.). while on the call they listed all my debts and all corresponded, they are apparently sent by regulators/government and promised to reduce the interest rate cause I'm being overcharged. For example, if my debit orders sum up to R2,000, can be reduced to R1,300.
This raised an alarm: Firstly, how do they make a profit and would they have consent from all the credit providers I owe, will there be a signed contract between all three parties in terms of retaining the same repayment period? I didn't get a clear answer to those questions. I then asked for a contract letter to be emailed immediately which elaborates what we discussed on the phone. The email only had a link to sign the forms not anything explaining what they do, or how the offer works. Another red flag was the name of the company on the email stating "PREMIUM DEBTS, credit life insurance, funeral cover" The business description didn't match
My concern is if I had signed and later discovered that I actually signed up for insurance or other products which would add to my debit orders. The name/brand they advertise themselves as on the call does not match with the email.
