Student debt related to accommodation
I am writing to kindly request your assistance regarding an outstanding accommodation-related debt on my student account. I am currently a fourth-year student at Nelson Mandela University, and in 2024 I was residing at PSA Residence Port Elizabeth. During that year, NSFAS introduced the system whereby accommodation payments were made directly to residences. My understanding was that the residence was then responsible for paying the relevant accommodation funds to the university. However, there appears to have been an issue with the payment made by the residence. Approximately R42,000 was supposed to be paid towards my accommodation fees, but only about R9,000 was paid to the university. As a result, the remaining amount has reflected as an outstanding debt on my student account. I have tried to resolve this matter directly with the residence. I visited their offices to explain the situation and request assistance, but unfortunately, I was not able to receive the necessary help. I also sent an email regarding the matter but have not received a response. This situation is causing me significant stress because I am now in my fourth year and I am concerned that the outstanding debt may prevent me from receiving my certificate after completing my studies. I am therefore respectfully asking for your assistance in resolving this matter. I would greatly appreciate it if the relevant office could investigate the accommodation payments made in 2024 and assist in determining where the outstanding amount should be accounted for. I am willing to provide any supporting documents, correspondence, or proof of payment that may be required. I sincerely hope that you can assist me, as this matter is having a serious impact on me and my academic progress. I would be extremely grateful for any intervention or guidance on how this issue can be resolved. Thank you for taking the time to consider my request.
