Unprofessional Service

Having ridden over a plastic bag in the river, I contacted Precision Marine owner who advised me to take the boat to him as soon as possible to be assessed for damage, which we did.

I was then informed that I ought to “throw the motor away” as it was irreparable and I was to purchase a new motor that he could organise for me and he would fix the damaged motor to be sold as a “running” motor.

I then advised him that if it could be repaired to be sold, I wanted him to repair it to be used. He then advised me that the piston and rings were shot. In fact the piston ring had been so badly damaged that it had “welded” onto the piston and he had to order me new pistons at the cost of R13 800 for parts and R7000 for labour. I agreed to this as these cost would be minimal to having to purchase a new motor. I was told by him to deposit the money for the parts as they were available and ready to be shipped to him. Three days later he telephoned to say he had just been informed by the supplier that the parts will only be available in January and he would fix the engine so we could utilize the boat until the parts arrived.

After collecting the boat my son decided to get a second opinion on the engine, as he had been informed when enquiring what work had been done on the engine, that the piston ring had “unwelded itself” that the piston was still damaged but useable.

The boat mechanic that we took the boat to for the second opinion said that the engine had not sustained the amount of damage we were advised, nor did the pistons need to be replaced. The damage was minimal with the spark plugs needing replacement and the impeller as a precautionary measure.

I then advised Precision Marine to cancel the parts order and refund me my money. I was then told how offended and humiliated he was that we requested a second opinion and that he took offence to me saying he was a **** and a *****, which I most certainly did not when asking him to cancel the order.

I have since inquired about the progress of the cancellation of the parts and as to when he can be expected to be refunded by his supplier for me to recoup my money. I am yet to receive a response to my email or message.

I am writing this review wanting to warn other people from getting “hoodwinked” as I was.
