PRASA's Treatment of Communities and Commuters
I am writing this massage to express the deep frustration and concern shared by many commuters regarding how PRASA engages with the communities it serves. It is becoming increasingly evident that commuters are often treated as though PRASA is doing them a favor, instead of recognizing that the service belonged to the very people is it meant to serve.
One of the most pressing issues is PRASA’s lack of timely communication when thing go wrong. It seems that commuters are only informed about disruption when they actively seek answers. This reactive approach to communication leaves commuters in the dark and demonstrates a lack of accountability from PRASA’s side. Proactive, Clear, and transparent communication is essential, especially during times of service interruption.
Additionally, for those commuters who purchase weekly or monthly tickets, there appears to be no consideration for the inconvenience and financial impact caused by service disruption. If trains do not operate as scheduled for a day, who takes responsibility for the lost value of those trips on the tickets? It is unreasonable to expect commuters to bear the full cost without any form of compensation. PRASA must explore ways to compensate affected commuters fairly when disruptions occur
The lack of consultation with commuters before implementing schedule or service changes is another major concern. Decisions that impact thousands of people should not be in this discussion to ensure that plans are realistic and take their need into account. All parties should be involved in the planning process to minimize frustration and confusion.
Lastly, it is important to acknowledge that when PRASA fails to meet commuter expectations, it creates an environment of frustration that can lead to unrest. This places both PRASA staff and innocent commuters at risk. It is in everyone’s best interest for PRASA to prioritize open communication, transparency, and fairness in its operations.
We urge PRASA to take those concerns seriously and work toward building a respectful and mutually beneficial relationship with the communities it serves.
