Hi Peter My father is dying of stage 4 lung cancer. He has policy with PPS Life. Where he pays R6197pm for sickness benefit which is a whole of life benefit. He has had the policy since 1974 (age 68 now). He began claiming from this benefit in April 2017. The benefit clearly states on his policy certificate they pay a monthly income for 728 days (2 years) . PPS have now sent him letter stating that they only pay the income for a 182 days over a 365 day cycle (6 months). No where in the policy certificate to date is this stated. To add in the letter PPS state they reserve the right to cancel the policy at their discretion. As a financial adviser myself an insurer can only cancel a plan in 3 instances as I have read the T&Cs: Non payment of premiums, non-disclosure and *****. Non of which are applicable. My father does not smoke as stated on the policy schedule and never has. He planned to work for another 2 years earning more than he is insured until this occured. This case needs to be taken under review otherwise I will be appoaching the FAIS Ombud.
