they will drop you when you need them most

<div>My father was an engineer and paid PPS his whole career with zero claims, in 2014 he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at 64 and had to stop working. PPS acknowledged his diagnosis and agreed to pay him out in full. They then said they would pay him in full over 24 months and we reluctantly agreed to their payment terms. The minute he turned 65 they stopped making the monthly payments. PPS refused to pay anything for an Alzheimer claim after 65, even though his claim was almost a year before. This is where the runaround began..........long story short he ended up only getting a fraction of what they owed him. I cant help imagine how far better off he would be financially if he did not waste his cash away on a dishonest insurer. Its taken me another 7 years to cancel my PPS policy in Jan 2021, i guess we both suckers, like father like son</div>

PPS know exactly who I am, PPS didn't care in 2014 why would you care now? The reason for my review is so others can be warned and take the necessary steps to avoid landing up in the same situation as my father.

Could someone please explain to myself (an existing PPS member) and other PPS members why if you are diagnosed before with Alzheimer's before 65, PPS only pays out your claim until your 65th Birthday, leaving the majority of your claim unpaid? Been trying to get an answer to this question since 2014:(

Finally I got a response from PPS, turns out their internal arbitrator already assessed my father claim. Despite the fact that they acknowledged his claim and agreed to pay him out for 2 years the internal arbitrator indicated this was an error on a senior PPS officials part.

My father joined PPS in 1984 so when we requested the original policy that he agreed to, the response from PPS was that this was no longer available............but that's ok because their internal arbitrator says they double checked the original documentation (which is completely unavailable) and deemed it "fundamentally similar" to the updated policy, rendering my fathers claim to be paid out for 2 years as null and void.

Long story short once you turn 66 PPS will only pay you out for a mere 182 days if you can no longer work, even if you are diagnosed before 66. I think that clause is a massive short fall in their insurance cover that 99 of members (including myself are unaware of or have overlooked) and allows them to avoid any large claim to the elderly professionals (the professionals with highest risk), but again its ok now because they decided to pay my father an extra R3000 for the inconvenience caused.

Elderly PPS professionals be warned....................but maybe they will have additional GAP cover for this soon:)

I have now requested the original policy documentation which is completely unavailable to everyone except their internal arbitrator so I can have piece of mind to put the matter to bed.
