If there is ever a point in your life that you would like to take out insurance, be it life, sickness and disability insurance.. do yourself a favour, and do not consider taking out a PPS policy.
I joined PPS in my postgrad year, and their pitch was excellent. It did get me to sign up. However, my experience with the insurer has been nothing short of a nightmare. My nightmare started in 2020, after trying to claim.
The main pebble in my shoe, is the inconsistent monthly premium deductions.. The monthly deductions that have been going off my account, have not been correlating with those described in the communication letters. It is almost as though they are playing Russian roulette with their debit orders, and the one with the bullet in hand gets charged more than agreed. Three top examples of this are.. the time I got charged R570+ for a policy with an agreed premium amount of R334, the second time I got a double deduction, using a premium that was only supposed to take effect after the 1st of January 2022, and the most recent is where I woke up to a deduction of R379, and the agreed policy premium is R339. A R40 extra was deducted, you would honestly swear the insurer wants to make one despise the insurance industry as a whole. What bothers me the most, that when all these extra charges go off, my bank charges me interest, as the amount being deducted exceeds the amount provided for. From this I am taking two things, this organisation wants me to despise the insurance industry, and simultaneously my record with my bank. As this is the second month in a row, I get charged R150+ place by my bank as interest.
I have tried contacting them, using their member services line and I have just been holding. Today I called seven times, held on the line for longer than 10 minutes on each attempt. The kicker here is, the call disconnects itself.
Insurance is supposed to make peoples lives easier, however mine has made mine a nightmare.
