FORMAL COMPLAINT: POSITANO BOUTIQUE HOTEL, QUEENSTOWN — SERIOUS CONCERNS REGARDING OVERBOOKING, MISREPRESENTATION AND ROOM-ALLOCATION PRACTICES I travelled to Queenstown, Eastern Cape, and on 7 August 2026 experienced what I consider to be a deeply disturbing and unacceptable situation involving Positano Boutique Hotel and my Booking.com reservation. I had booked an Executive Room for 8–10 August 2026 through Booking.com, received a confirmed booking reference and paid approximately R3,800 in full. I therefore had every reasonable expectation that the hotel would honour my confirmed reservation. Upon arrival, however, I was informed that the hotel was fully booked and that my reservation could not be honoured. I was subsequently referred to alternative accommodation which, in my view, was substantially inferior to the Executive Room I had paid for. I was informed that the hotel would apparently cover the alternative accommodation. This raises serious questions: How can a hotel accept and confirm payment for a room through Booking.com and then, upon the customer's arrival, claim that the room is unavailable? What concerns me even more are the circumstances surrounding the allocation of rooms. Based on what I personally experienced and observed, I have serious concerns that rooms may have been allocated to walk-in or direct-paying customers while customers with confirmed and prepaid Booking.com reservations were displaced. I cannot independently establish the motives behind this or make a definitive allegation against any particular individual. However, the circumstances are sufficiently concerning to warrant a proper investigation. If it is established that confirmed Booking.com customers were deliberately displaced in favour of direct customers, friends, acquaintances or others paying directly to the establishment, particularly for additional financial benefit, this would go far beyond a simple administrative error and could potentially involve *****ulent, dishonest or other ******** conduct, depending on the evidence. I therefore call for an investigation into: - The hotel's Booking.com reservations and room availability for 8–10 August 2026; - The internal room-allocation and occupancy records; - Who occupied the room associated with my confirmed reservation; - Whether walk-in or direct-paying customers were prioritised over confirmed Booking.com guests; - Whether staff or management benefited financially from any such reallocations; - Whether similar complaints have previously been made; - Whether Booking.com was accurately informed of the hotel's actual availability; and - Why I was transferred to accommodation that was materially different from what I had booked and paid for. BOOKING.COM MUST ALSO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY Booking.com facilitated and confirmed my reservation, and customers rely on its platform when making advance payments. A "confirmed" reservation should provide meaningful protection to the customer. It is unacceptable for a customer to travel to a destination, only to discover upon arrival that the accommodation provider will not honour the booking. I therefore call upon both Positano Boutique Hotel and Booking.com to provide a proper written explanation and investigate the circumstances surrounding my reservation. I demand a full refund of the approximately R3,800 paid, together with an explanation and appropriate consideration of the inconvenience and disruption caused. I am not making a final determination that any individual committed a ******** offence; that is for the appropriate authorities to establish. However, if an investigation confirms deliberate manipulation of reservations for personal or financial gain, I believe the matter should be referred to the appropriate consumer-protection, regulatory and law-enforcement authorities for further action. Customers work hard for their money. A confirmed and fully paid reservation should be honoured. What happened to me was unacceptable, deeply disappointing and has seriously undermined my confidence in both Positano Boutique Hotel and Booking.com. I therefore call for transparency, a proper investigation, a full refund and accountability for anyone found to have acted improperly.

After numerous phone calls on my part, this establishment has been unable, or rather unwilling, to send me an invoice. After calling and requesting for a week, I have yet to receive my invoice, so that my work can reimburse me. A simple invoice! And the wifi is terrible on premises.
