Pool renovation

I needed some work done on my swimming pool in preparation for the summer. Epoxy Pool and Renovations was one of the companies that provided a quotation to Epoxy the inside of my pool. The owner Christian Oneill and his dad came out to inspect the pool. Their quote was the best priced, hence I chose them for the work.

As the pool was drained, I was advised that the pool filter and multi-port valve had to be replaced (although it worked fine - just aged). They quoted me separately for that work, which I agreed to. This work was done while the pool was emptied for the Epoxy to be app****. After they completed the work, I could not run the pump to determine whether the work was up to standard (the pool was empty).

After applying the Epoxy, they advised that the pool must remain dry for another 7 days. They also asked for the final payment at that point, which I paid seeing that they haven't gave me any reason not to trust them (my mistake). I even asked them to clean the row of tiles at the edge of the pool when they return, which I paid for with the final payment.

After the 7 days, and with water in the pool, I could start the pump for the first time. The moment the pool pump started, water was shooting out from the filter, multi-port valve and the piping that was replaced. I reported the issue to the owner Christian Oneill, and he claimed that it was his dad's job and that I need to take the matter up with his dad (apparently his dad's company is called Pool Coatings and Renovations).

I've been sent from pillar to post without any success. Upon opening up the filter, I found that there wasn't even sand in the filter. Be careful if you're going to deal with this company.

I have since gotten another contractor to come assess the mess. It will cost me a further R3 000 to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place. I just hope the Epoxy was done properly, and that it will last.
