****** Language Policy
I recently accompanied a friend to the Spa and I was shocked and appalled to find out about your discriminatory language policy. Apparently employees of the Spa are not allowed to speak to each other in their mother tongue even in private conversation when there are no customers around. Employees may also not speak to customers in their first language regardless if the customer speaks that same language.
Although it is customary practice in South Africa to use English as a common language to overcome the challenges of having 11 official languages, it is NOT acceptable to enforce English above other languages especially in situations as mentioned above. The constitution guarantees equal status to all languages. I am sure you are aware that to forbid an employee to speak their home language (under threat of dismissal) is not only intolerant but actually violates the law.
Furthermore, I overheard other employees speaking Afrikaans without being reprimanded so it would seem that the policy is not being implemented consistently. This is pure ****** and would cause an outrage on social media should it become known.
I was planning on booking a full spa day for myself and my mother on her birthday but I am afraid I cannot support a business that is still stuck in 1990.
