Nicole terminated from membership at the brink of having a kidney transplant

I am writing this review on behalf of my friends, Ron and Beryl Bernard, whose 30-year-old daughter, Nicole, has been diagnosed with Stage 5 lupus and Stage 5 kidney failure.

On 25 July, Polmed informed her father (the main member) that Nicole would be removed from the medical aid as of 31 July 2025. This is despite doctors submitting letters of motivation to keep Nicole on the benefit due to the critical state of her illness. Unfortunately, these appeals appear to have fallen on deaf ears.

Polmed advised that Nicole’s case was a priority two weeks ago, yet there has been no further feedback. It raises the question: how much more time does it take for a decision to be made, knowing full well that Nicole’s condition worsens daily without dialysis?

Ron and Beryl are exhausted from repeatedly reaching out for help. I fully understand the POPI Act, but I am hoping someone will contact me so I can share their details and discuss this matter further to ensure a positive resolution for Nicole and her three young children who depend on her.

Due to Nicole’s illness, she is unable to provide financially for her children, leaving her parents to carry the full financial burden during this already difficult time.
