Very bad experience
POINT S - BETHLEHEM
On the 26th July I called Point S in Bethlehem and spoke to Dawie. I asked whether I could bring my car in for them to go through and list everything that was wrong.
I took my car (BMW316) in on the 31July and paid R437.00. I spoke to Alana when I fetched my car and she listed everything. I asked her to give me a quote for the most important repairs On the 6th August she sent me a quote for R24076.19 She said that the other little things she would quote me on later.ie CV Joints, My doors and the bonnet arms that were not working I told her that I was not prepared to pay R4000 for a light switch. She said that they would have alook and maybe be able to do it for cheaper. I took my car in on the 14 Aug for the repairs to be done. On the 16th Alana phoned and said that they couldnt get a ignition so they were taking my car to Keys for Africa to replace the ignition. She also said that the steering column would take 4 weeks so I would have to bring my car back.
I was told to collect my car on the 20 Aug as everything had been repaired. I asked for the amount and said that they must include the amount for the steering. She said it was not necessary as they had repaired that with the ignition. She also informed me that they just had to replace 2 globes and not the R4000 light switch, the amount that I immediately paid over was R18481.45. I was told that they did not test drive the car as there was no petrol in. Alana said I was to drive the car and if there was anything wrong I was to call her. My car was making a screaming noise. I asked a friend of mine and he said that it sounded like a fan belt or something. On Tuesday morning the 21 Aug I phoned and spoke to Alana I told her that I thought there was something wrong with a fan belt and that my fuel gauge wasn't working. She was going to immediately send Dawie to fetch my car. After the third call I decided to take my car to them. My car would not start. Dawie arrived after I phoned AGAIN. He shouted at me and said that I started the car at his workshop. He does not take responsibility for what happens outside his workshop and that my car is s****. I told him that it may be a piece of s**** to him but it is still my car. He then towed my car to his workshop and started to check the wiring. I must add that part of the work that was supposed to be done was a new ignition. He then checked the starter and found nothing wrong. He told me it was the immobiliser and then later said it was the anti hijacking device I had to take my car to an auto electrician. I told him nothing was wrong when I drove my car into his workshop the first time. He then got an auto electricians to look at the car. They said there was an anti hijacking on the passenger side and broke open my cubihole to get at it. No one even phoned me to ask for my key to the cubihole. It is now completely broken. My car was delivered to me and He said that there was a problem with the Vbelt and that the power steering was leaking oil. This was not on the original report when I originally took the car to him. He has subsequently now sent me another quote for the Vbelt and Power Steering and CV Joints for a further R17932.81 On the documentation there was work done on the steering, the brakes are screaming each time I use the brakes. New brakes pads were also installed. The car makes terrible noise when I put it into 4th gear, (never happened before.) My car is also overheating, I don't know what to do. I have paid this man and I am so unhappy and disappointed,When my daughter confronted him and asked him how much more does he want us to pay he said "THE MORE DIFFICULT YOU BECOME THE HIGHER THE PRICE" Point S came highly recommended that is why I took my car to them. All that I wanted to do was start at a point and repair my car. Have it resprayed, have the interior done. Have the engine fixed. And what have I got now. Nothing. I WILL PERSONALLY MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE I COME IN CONTACT WITH KNOWS WHAT A TERRIBLE PLACE POINT S IS. NOT TO TAKE THEIR CARS THERE FOR ANY KIND OF SERVICE.
I have since taken my car to 3 different service providers. The quote I now received for the steering, CV's and Vbelt is R7000. They are busy repairing my car. They also informed me that my steering was not touched and that it was full of dust and dirt and grime.
They also quoted me on the parts that were subsequently replaced and their prices are much lower.
