Extremely bad experience with hotel

Booked in for 3 nights from 14 May, but booked out after 1 night. It is advertised as a 4 star hotel, with a restaurant and Spa. We booked the honeymoon suite.

Arriving there, we were informed that the restaurant do not function anymore, except for breakfast. We then tried booking the spa, only to be informed that the spa is closed for 'maintenance' and cannot be booked.

Going to the room, we were told the lift is out of order. Upon arrival in the room, the TV was not working. It only had 1 channel advertising Openview. When trying to phone the front desk, we found that the rooms did not have telephones. When i contacted the front desk eventually we were informed that they have 'technical difficulties' with the decoders.

On 15 May I booked out. I requested that I be refunded for the remaining 2 nights, as none of the amenities advertised was available. I was informed that the manager will contact me at 10 when she come on duty. Needless to say, no call was forthcoming. Neither was she available when I called the hotel on 16 May.

I eventually called the hotel and managed to speak to the manager on 18 May. She apologised for the inconvenience caused, and said that she will speak to the owners and call me back.

It is now more than a week later and no call.

I should have picked up that there are issues when I tried booking. I called the hotel and was told the cost will be R 4 400 for the 3 nights. On booking.com it was advertised as R 3 660 for 3 nights ( R 1 220 per night). When mentioning it I was informed that it cost less to book online, which I did. Much to my surprise, when wanting to leave a complaint on their Facebook page, their page had a winter special of R 470 per person per night. I showed it to the staff and they were not aware of it.

The visit left a bitter taste in my mouth, and the fact that there have been no further communication from the hotel is an indication that they do not care about their poor venue. The hotel do not even deserve 1 star, and it boggles the mind that it could be awarded 4 stars.

The only positive I experienced is that the staff went out of their way to be helpful, but they unfortunately do not have a say in the matter.
