Bad service and reluctant s to exchange

On Saturday the 28th February I went to the PLIC outlet at Cape Gate regarding a product of theirs that went defective. (Plastic dog basket). I bought the article about 4 months ago. I went to the store to ask if they could replace the defective basket. The lady that assisted me was helpful and reported it to the manager. I heard her explaining to the manager the problem and that I had informed her i don't have the receipt as i did not see it necessary to keep it. She then said no problem I can bring it back. As it was late Saturday afternoon I said I will return it early Sunday morning.
On Sunday morning app. 09:00 I entered the outlet to exchange the item. The staff on duty was not aware of my problem as the lady who assisted me the day before was not in. The lady assisting me was very abrupt and asked where is my receipt. I explained my whole situation from the beginning again. She then spoke to the manager who recalled something of the day before but insisted that I produce the receipt.
It is not rocket science to see their price stamp and product emblem on the side. What would the receipt have changed. I was very upset and left the store. Price R235.00 badly spent.

Hello bennieh1965,

I have checked on your comments and also discussed this incident with the staff involved and would like to comment as follows:
1. According to our records, you approached the branch on Friday 27th February and not Saturday 28th as mentioned.
2. Manager and staff member assures me that he told you on the Friday that he could not exchange articles without the till slip being produced. Unfortunately, this is standard practice which was instituted by the Government to protect shops from irregularities, which we as Business have experienced a few times in the past. (please see below)

According to the Consumers Act, you have the right to a sales slip, and I quote :
o Consumers have the right to demand confirmation of purchase made, in the form of receipt or invoice
o Suppliers are required to include, via receipts or invoices, the following:

o Suppliers full contact information, Business names and value-added tax (VAT) registration numbers
o Name and description of goods
o Date on which the transaction took place
o Unit price of goods
o Quantity of goods purchased
o Total price of goods purchased
o Total price of transactions, including any applicable taxes and
o Full contact informa
