Was I sold a refurbished laptop

Disheartened by the help I have received from both Vodacom and Mecer. My laptop charging on the 11th December. I tried to buy a universal charger from two 3rd parties. Upon assistance the technicians noticed that the device is not charging and advise me to send it to the supplier as the device is only 10months old at the time. When laptop was booked in and received to (Mecer) Supplier. The report is returned with a report that the device has been opened/tampered with. Which is untrue makes we wonder if i was sold a refurbished laptop. Logically why would a consumer pay a 3rd party to fix a device which is under Warranty and Guarantee?
