They are super persistent: do not be manipulated by friendly sales staff!
It is rather conspicuous that the vast majority of positive reviews of Platinum Life were posted by reviewers who only became active in the same month as posting the review, and who have only posted that one review. It is hard to believe that these are all legit. Platinum Life uses the lure of a 'free gift' as part of their tactic to sell cancer cover. Upon receipt of the gift (in my case, hand cream), they then ask you to nominate your own friends and family to receive the same, and attempt to sell you cancer insurance. They are remarkably persistent, and the combination of a "free gift', a recommendation by a known friend/family member, and exceptionally friendly sales staff (they will make you feel like they're your BFF) makes this a very persuasive sales tactic, and even when you say 'no' - it's really hard to get them to stop calling you. I had verbally and explicitly declined to nominate friends/family for a gift, had declined to purchase anything from them, and had expressly stated that I am opting out and that my name and number be taken off their database. Lo and behold, the calls did not stop. It was only when I informed them that they were contravening the Consumer Protection Act and that the call was tantamount to harassment that they ended the conversation. Manipulating people into buying your products and then calling them after one has opted out is ********* and ********.
