PlatinumLife “promotional gift ****”?
I received an SMS yesterday from Platinum Life saying I should expect a call from them shortly. The greeting they used on the SMS was my nickname which was personal instead of formal- making me feel unconsciously rested and easy (as if to say the sender knows me).
At the time of their first call I was unable to answer so they called me again using a different number. The caller proceeded to ask me if I know Zama Shabangu and that he has nominated me to receive a promotional gift. I was confused as to the identity of the person the caller was referring to so I said I do know him. Then she said I should receive an SMS with instructions on how or when I will receive my gift within 4-6 weeks. And before she ended the call she asked if I’m employed to which I falsely rep**** no. No other personal information was asked.
I’ve since then been feeling anxious and suspicious. So I’ve contacted the Zama I know and he has no knowledge pertaining to any of this. So I believe it is a ****.
They have used different numbers each time they’ve contacted me. They do not provide any clarity as to whom they are and why the are insistent on gaining personal information or “giving a gift”. And most concerning and alarming is I have no knowledge of the so called person who has apparently nominated me. It’s all an absurd and confusing mess. Where do they even get our numbers or nicknames??!!!!!
I have received your complaint and would like to provide some feedback regarding this matter. I was unable to reach you telephonically to discuss this
At Platinum Life, we work strictly on a referral basis. As such, we give our policyholders the chance to nominate friends and family members for a promotional gift. This is a way for us to provide more information about who we are and what we do.
Our referral department will always ask if you know the person who nominated you and an SMS is also sent to your phone to advise on the referral. If you confirm that you know the referrer and wish to receive the gift, your details are captured and an SMS with more information about the gift is sent out within 4-6 weeks.
We are a registered FSP and all our conduct is in line with FSCA legislation. The promotional gift is cost-free and you are under no obligation to provide your details or receive the gift.
Please contact me if there is anything else I can provide clarity on and advise if you would still like to receive the gift (as I can arrange to remove your details if you are uncomfortable with the process).
Kind Regards
