Platinum Life Nomination calls
At first, I didn’t want to say anything. I tried to brush it off. But I cannot stop replaying the conversation in my head over and over again today.
Yesterday, 18 February at 16:53, I received a call from Platinum Life’s call centre +27 (53) *** . Initially, I thought I would just politely listen to the lady and then decline whatever was being offered. I was not prepared for the emotional blow that followed.
The consultant, who was friendly, explained where she was calling from — and then, completely out of nowhere, told me that I had been nominated for a gift package by Marouschka Weinrebe.
What she could not have known is that Marouschka was not just anyone to me. She was my sister-in-law, my best friend, and more like a real sister than anything else. She passed away almost seven years ago at the age of 29, after undergoing a laparoscopy and colonoscopy, and tragically developing septicaemia due to negligence. Her death shattered our family. It was sudden, traumatic, and something we have had to live with every single day since.
To hear her name spoken so casually in a sales call — to be told she “nominated” me — felt like being punched in the stomach. It reopened wounds that have never truly healed. It was deeply upsetting and incredibly insensitive.
After I informed the consultant that Marouschka passed away seven years ago, I was still asked whether my number could be passed on to other agents to contact me. At that point, I was beyond shocked.
This experience felt extremely unprofessional and distressing. Randomly contacting people to tell them they have been nominated is questionable enough — but when it involves someone who has passed away, it becomes deeply painful.
I am formally requesting that you delete my number, ***, from your system immediately and permanently. I do not wish to be contacted again under any circumstances.
I sincerely hope that you review your processes to ensure that no one else has to relive grief in this way. Regards.Cindy
Please accept our sincere apologies for the experience you had, and especially for our call reopening what is clearly a very painful loss. This is never our intention, and the call should have been handled with far greater sensitivity once this was disclosed to us.
I have requested the call recording and will be escalating the matter to our Referral Team to ensure that this does not happen again.Your details have been added to our Do Not Contact list with immediate effect, and I have also arranged for any additional referrals provided by Marouschka to be removed from our floor.
Once again, we are truly sorry for the distress this may have caused.
Kind Regards
