Platinum Life / GUARDLIFE ****
I received call from a male, a sales executive as stated by the sms I received after the call. This person advised that he was calling from Platinum Life. He/they(the company) had noticed that I did not chosen a free gift since they had last contacted me. He then went on to tell me I can still receive my free gift and that an sms would be sent to me concerning that(have not received it). The conversation then went to a sales pitch about a policy that would cover me in an event of an accident and theft etc. I was hesitant to accept the product he pitched me. I advised that I'm not in the financial position to commit to anything but he went on to convince me it would better to have the benefit. Throughout that conversation I was hesitant, skeptical, had my doubts and kept asking questions. However he pressed on to convince me to provide my details(bankimg details and such) and advised I would receive documents for me to review and that I have until the 30 August to decide if I want the policy(I have not received the documents). With previous experience from other companies documents are sent shortly after the call without committing to anything. Me being the push over and the nice guy that I am not wanting to be rude gave him my bank details and such after he advised that I can cancel before August 30, the date from when I'd be debited R341.46 monthly. A lesson to anybody who reads this, don't ever provide your banking details over the phone. I knew this but I still did it to my regret. Also don't ever give in to sales of any sort over the phone if you're not interested. If you don't want a product just say no. If want you a policy or any product to suit your needs see the people in person and from companies you know and trust. Platinum life claims to be exclusive as per the sales executive and you cannot sign up for a policy a less you are referred. Well if so exclude why not listen to me when I say I have no money to take out the policy. Anyway...I gave in, my mistake. It was advised that they use debicheck and that I needed to authorize the the debit order. Well I thought to myself I will just not authorize it. I received an sms from my bank stating that the authorization request expired. I thought great, no worries. Not so there's worried. My bank must have failed me because I received an sms advising Registered Mandate INSURE PLA Ref: (reference omitted) DebitAmt:R341.46 Monthly on the 30th. This is when it gets interestimg. I immediately called Platinum life to cancel everything. I spoke to a lady who said she would process the same. I asked if I would receive confirmation via sms or email that the cancellation was complete, whoever the answer was no. This was surprising to me as this is usually the case when submitting cancellations with other companies I've dealt with. The call ended and I start feeling uneasy. After a while I called again and spoke to another woman and I asked if she should see a profile of mine concerning any policies provisioned but she said no because it takes a certain time frame in order for it to be processed. Strange since they've already initiated the debited order. Again I requested for her to process a cancellation and she did notice that I request on previously already. Ended that call again still not happy. I then checked my banking app and notice that the creditors shortened name is INSURE PLA same as on the sms however the Credtors name is GUARDRISK. Well I started panicking. I called platinum life again and asked about the same. The lady I spoke to said she didn't know about Guardrisk and that she would call me back. Few minutes later she advise that I'd need to phone GUARDRISK directly. I then asked her why the person who called me said he was from Platinum life if GUARDRISK would debit me. She then said Platinum life and GUARDRISK where linked or something like that but I would need to call them. This is all too fishy for me. Why would a Platinum Life Sales Executive call me but then I'd be debited by GUARDRISK. This is just a reeks of a ****. What is going on hear? Why do I need to contact these GUARDRISK people when Platinum Life called? I've read that there are other unfortunate persons who struggle to cancel and this is worrying. It's seems like this is a ploy to stall until the cancellation period is over. Then after one has no choice but to pay the monthly fee/premium.
I have received your complaint and I am currently looking into this matter. I was unable to reach you telephonically to discuss.
Please note that your policy is not yet reflecting on our system, as we are still awaiting the details from our sales department. The cancellation was sent through to them on the 10th and 11th of June 2021 and I have contacted them for feedback regarding this. I apologize that the consultants did not advise on the process from sales and were not able to address your concerns.
As soon as I have received the needed information, I will be in contact.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist with in the meantime
Kind Regards
