Platinum Life asks too many personal details only for promotional strategy
I recently had an experience with Platinum Life that left me concerned. As part of their gifting/promotional strategy, they reached out to offer a gift and a R20000 free cancer cover for 6 months I think, which seemed like a nice gesture at first. However, the process concerns me in terms of the information they exchange and require for them to courier the gift.
To claim the gift, I was asked to provide highly sensitive personal information, including my bank account details, ID number, and other private data. This request felt intrusive and raised red flags for me. In today's world, where data privacy is a significant concern, asking for such information just to receive a gift seems unnecessary and even potentially dangerous.
It’s troubling that a company would ask for this level of personal information under the guise of a gift. This approach not only diminishes the goodwill that the gift might have generated but also erodes trust in the brand. I strongly urge Platinum Life to reconsider its gifting strategy and to prioritise the privacy and security of its customers. There is no need for you to know my what bank I bank with, what type of account it is, and my ID number for reference purposes (you can use my cell phone number as a reference for the gift delivery). And whether I earn more than R10000. This is unnecessary really! The explanation is that in case there is more promotional offers in future. Please, I will have this complaint on record cause if there is any ******* activity on my bank account based on the information I provided you, I will take the necessary steps.
Really, please reconsider the information you are collecting and the benefit to you.
