NEGATIVE OPTION MARKETING AT ITS BEST
My wife was contacted by an agent of Platinum life and was informed of the policy via telephone. There was explained that the "agreement" would come to an end once she received the "package" and cancel the policy.
Without any insights as to what the terms and conditions of said policy are Platinum Life started deducting an amount of R 232.59 per month. I reiterate, at no stage was the policy accepted and the terms thereof agreed to.
In terms of section 31 of the Consumer Protection act such marketing schemes are labelled as "negative option marketing". Such "agreements" are ******** and void!
My wife being a layman didn't know this.
I demand that the contract be cancelled and the premiums paid till date be repaid.
The policy number is ********** .
This matter will be taken further should you choose not to respond. I fear for how many uninformed people are caught up in this ******** scheme!
You are more than welcome to contact writer.

Dear Ryno and Anelle,
As per the feedback I have now received from the sales department is that the 30-day review period (that is standard on our policies) was not fully explained to your wife. The 30-day review period is the time that is given after a policy is delivered for the potential policy holder to read through the terms and conditions and decide if they would like to continue with the policy that was offered. If after 30 days, we do not hear anything from the policy holder, the first premium is set to be deducted as per the date discussed in the sales call.
Due to this not being explained fully, your wife would not have been aware that the policy is set to start from the date discussed. I do apologize for the inconvenience caused and the misunderstanding regarding the terms of the policy. This matter will be addressed with the sales consultants.
The policy has been frozen as per the conversation with Joni on the 14th of February 2018. I have also arranged to refund the 3 premiums that were deducted and all further debit orders have been stopped with immediate effect.
Please contact us on *** for any further assistance.
Kind regards,
Simone Venter
