*******, ********* use of information

I was contacted by Platinum Life through a referral by my cousin. As it was a referral and I currently have family members suffering with cancer I was stupid enough to provide Platinum Life with my details.

I was, however, very clear about not wanting to be signed up for any policies. They were offering a "free" six month coverage which I clearly DECLINED. I requested that they simply send me an information package. I wanted to review the terms and conditions before making any decisions.

After the call I was informed by a friend that giving my details out was stupid. I was so concerned that I contacted Platinum Life to ask if my information would be sold, or used to sign me up for a policy without my consent. Their consultant Aneshari confirmed IN WRITING that this was not the case. She assured me that all they do is "send out a package on female cancer awareness" which was a LIE.

They completely ignored my clear request on a RECORDED PHONE CALL not to be signed up for a policy and did so anyway. They now refuse to respond to my e-mail complaint. They have opted instead to respond with useless FAQ mails. I have no doubt that after six months they will be attempting to ***** money from me for a policy that I never signed up for.

I have never felt so violated. I trusted this company with privileged information and they have used it *******ly.

Dear Samantha,

Thank you for taking my call today and giving me the opportunity to assist with your query.

You were contacted by a marketing consultant (not a sales consultant) on the 22nd of March 2017.

This call was merely a marketing call in order to send to you a promotional gift pack with information on our company.

I listened to the marketing call which I have also forwarded to you and you will hear that we clearly made no attempt to sign you up for a policy.

We obtained your personal information from you in complete adherence to the prevailing laws of South Africa both in the letter and in the spirit of those laws. Aneshari did lie to you at any stage and we only required your information in order to send you our no-obligation promotional pack.

I have however added your details to our ‘Do Not Contact List’ and no further calls will be made to you.

Please contact me directly on *** or our call centre on ***for any further assistance.

Kind regards,

Tanja Yildirim
