Deceptive and dishonest opt-in process

I foolishly shared a great deal of my personal information with Platinum Life, in order to receive a "Free Gift" as part of their refferal scheme. I have been continually harrased by their consultants who attempt to inappropriatly initiate a policy.

They attempted initiate the process without my firm consent. Thier excuse? The consultant hears the word "yes" at any point in the one-sided conversation and proceeds to sign you up and arrange delivery of documentation, all the while babbling on about the policy's benefits.

In addition to this, they say that if the DON'T hear back from you after sending documentation, they will simply go ahead and start debiting funds from your account.

No matter how compliant they claim to be, this organisation is an extremely sketchy FSP.

Dear Hugh,

I have received your complaint and I am currently looking into this matter.  Please note that our sales agents have to follow a very strict script and ensure that all legal closures are done with a clear consent of the client before a policy can be issued. After consenting to the policy and receiving your documentation, you have a legal 30 day review period to cancel your policy if you are not completely satisfied with the policy terms.

I have requested the calls made to you to follow up on the conduct of the consultant and what was discussed with you.

You are more than welcome to contact me if there is anything I can assist with in the mean time.  Yours Sincerely Simoné VenterClient Relationship Specialist & Client Care Supervisor

Hi Simoné,

Just to clarify, I believe your consultant followed your script correctly and I have no doubt all of the legalities were crammed into the conversation.

My issue is around what your organisation considers "consent". In my case, the consultant accepts a verbal affirmation over the phone after rapidly bombarding me with information. (A fairly obvious ploy).

A quick search online reveals numerous complaints almost identical to this one.

From my experience and from what I have gathered reading other complaints, Platinum life is operating on the fringes and tends to blur the lines a great deal. Platitum Life seems more concerned with "tricking" people into binding agreements as opposed to offering a decent and transparent service.

I cannot stress this enough; I have no interest in your services, especially after my conversation with your consultant this morning. I do not want to receive any documentation. I do NOT consent.

Dear Hugh,  I have listened to the call and I agree that the sale was not handled in a proper and professional manner. This has been escalated to our sales department to ensure it is addressed.  I agree that the consultant bombarded you with information and did place pressure on you to agree – we don’t agree with this sales tactic. Our aim is never to make anyone feel pressured or force them to make a decision regarding a policy.  The consent obtained in the sales call is to confirm that you are interested in the policy that is being offered and that you will receive and go through the documentation that will be sent to you.  The 30 day review period is standard with all our policies and is in accordance with legislation. All our policies can be cancelled at any time within the period (or thereafter).  Our sales department has advised that no sale was completed and there is no active policy on our system. Please let me know if you would like a copy of the call emailed through for your records as well.  Yours Sincerely Simoné VenterClient Relationship Specialist & Client Care Supervisor
