WHAT WENT RONG WITH THE FORMULA?? ARE WE BEING BAMBOOZLED BY A GIANT COMPANY LIKE PLASCON?

I live in Welkom, that little city in the Free State, and have been an avid user of Polycell Paint Brush Cleaner for several years. I use the product a lot, and I always buy 2 -3 cans at atime. Imagine my surprise when my local dealer, Buildmat (who always has stock), told me they had no stock and have not been getting for 3 months. So I phoned around and got the same reply from Buco, SA Timber, Cashbuild, DIY Depot, Framar Build It, Bevins, Paint King etc. When queried about future supplies, no one could (or would) give me a straight answer, which led me to believe the product was being quietly withdrawn from the market. I started shopping on the Internet in earnest, and the only shop I could find with stock was Makro in Pretoria, and they had 7 cans in stock. I bought them staright away on the their website and requested my daughter who live in Pretoria to collect it for me. I was very happy with my purchase - until the can I was using went dry, and I opened a new (from Makro) can. It was sealed like all new cans with the pull tab plastic seal, so no tampering was suspected. Then I put the paint brush in it - no action or reaction. Normally the paint starts dissolving the moment you put the brush in the brush cleaner. It smelt of nothing, whereas the previous cans I used had a distinct odour. It was as useless as water on a brush that was used with an oil based paint.

I opened all the other new cans from Makro - same result. No hardware store can afford to keep water in sealed cans marked "Polycell Brush Cleaner". They would be sued from here to Timbuktu.

Question is : What am I to do? Yes, I want to recover the cash spent on the product, but equally important - I need a product that worked as well as the original Polycell brush cleaner.

I rest my case
