Nightmare trying to colour match paint

I bought two different colour tins of velvaglo to paint my kitchen cupboards and doors. 20 and 21, both side by side on the colour switches so I assumed they would compliment each other, one on the cabinets and one on the doors. When I started to paint I saw that the one colour has pink undertones which just did not match my otherwise stone coloured kitchen. I took it back to Builders and they used so many tints to try and match it that the tin of paint is now compromised and I can't use it. It's become a nightmare trying to paint my kitchen, relying on little colour cards that don't match up. You can't test the paint as it is a white base and you only know the true colour when it is tinted and you have to buy it. I have spent a fortune on paint that's been recommended but doesn't do the job.
