Terrible business practices and exploitation

In June 2023, I signed a 24-month contract with Planet Fitness. From the beginning, the experience was plagued by incompetence. They registered me at a branch half an hour away instead of the one literally a minute from my office. This blocked my gym access and denied me the preferential rate I had been promised - for three months.

Eventually, I was told I needed to "sign a fixed contract" to correct the mistake. I comp****, trusting them to sort it out. Now, in May 2025, I called to cancel my membership — only to be told that I’m still locked in for another four months because that second contract restarted the 24-month period.

Let me be very clear: the only reason I signed the second contract was because Planet Fitness messed up my original signup. Now they’re using that against me to demand either more months of payments or a penalty fee to cancel early. That’s not just unfair - it’s abusive business practice.

The sales rep I dealt with ghosted me during the signup process and only responded when I chased him via phone and WhatsApp - and even then, I had to beg him to fix it. And now, when I try to cancel, I was told on Thursday that a manager would call me back within 72 hours. It’s Sunday afternoon. No call. No surprise.

I wanted to cancel by the 10th because I refuse to pay for another month. But because I had to phone them four times and physically go into the branch twice, I’m sure they’ll try squeeze another debit out of me. I’m not paying. They need to get their act together - or I will be lodging a formal complaint with the CGSO.

I’m cutting unnecessary costs to save for some life goals at the moment. Given how I’ve been treated, Planet Fitness is the first expense I’m cutting. I will not be paying a penalty fee for their mistake, and I will not be returning. This company has lost my trust completely
