Formal Complaint – Security Incident at Planet Fitness Brackenfell

On 9 September 2025, between 7pm and 8pm, I was training at Planet Fitness Brackenfell. Due to limited parking in front of the gym, I parked my vehicle in the side lot. Upon returning, I discovered that my car had been broken into and my laptop bag—containing my laptop and personal belongings—had been ****** from the boot. The method used appears to have been remote jamming.

The following day, 10 September, I returned to the gym to request access to security footage. I was informed that no surveillance covers the side parking area. The assistant took my contact details and assured me she would follow up. She also suggested I approach the neighboring business for their footage.

When I spoke to the neighboring company, they confirmed that I was at least the ninth person to request footage due to similar incidents involving gym patrons. This clearly indicates a pattern of recurring thefts.

To date, no one from Planet Fitness Brackenfell has contacted me. However, the complex security reached out today requesting my SAPS case number. They also confirmed that these incidents have happened multiple times and that they’ve previously offered the gym additional security services—which have not been taken up.

What’s even more concerning is that on Saturday morning, 6 September 2025, I was also at the gym when an alarm went off as I was leaving. Two gym employees responded, and when I asked about the alarm, they explained that it activates when remote jamming is detected. This raises serious questions:

Why were members not informed about these ongoing security threats?

Why has no action been taken to protect members and their property?

Given the membership fees we pay, I believe it is reasonable to expect basic safety and security for our vehicles and belongings while using the gym. I am deeply disappointed and outraged by the lack of accountability and response from gym management, especially in light of their awareness of these repeated incidents.

I urge Planet Fitness Brackenfell to take immediate steps to improve security, communicate transparently with members, and prioritize our safety
