Planetfitness act like **** syndicate

I signed up for Planetfitness Queenswood Pretoria on June 26, 2023. When I joined, I made it clear to the salesperson that I only planned to use the gym for a few months because I'd be moving at the end of the year. They assured me that if I signed a one-year contract and gave them a two-month notice before canceling, I wouldn't face any additional charges.

Fast forward to October 2023, when I called to cancel my membership effective in December, as per our agreement. To my surprise, they told me the rules had changed, and I'd be hit with an immediate cancellation fee of R2200 IF I WANT TO cancel my membership. When I explained that this wasn't what we'd agreed upon, they didn't provide an explanation but insisted on payment.

In an attempt to resolve this, I visited the gym and was directed to email my complaint. Two days later, WHILE I WAS WAITING for the answer, i got a message and an email stating my membership was canceled, along with a demand for payment.

1. The agreement I had when I signed the contract and what they're doing now are completely different. This feels like a *****. Nobody could explain the change, and they just ignored my questions, terminated my contract, and demanded money.

2. When I called their customer service after receiving the cancellation notice, they couldn't answer why they cancel led. They simply told me your membership has been cancelled and demand the settlement fee. The customer service is useless.

3. While I was waiting for feedback from their management via email on my query, they unexpectedly canceled my contract without my approval and demanded payment. Keep in mind, I'd given them a two-month notice, meaning I should still be able to use the gym for two more months, but they unfairly terminated my contract immediately.

This whole situation makes me believe I'm being treated unfairly, almost like a victim of a ****. A well-known gym behaving like this is simply unacceptable and appears to violate the law. It's akin to a business taking advantage of customers.

I'm hoping that law enforcement can step in or that I might need to consult with a lawyer to seek a fair and just resolution with Planetfitness.
